Our approach to privacy
Scope of this policy
This policy applies to personal information handled through HiÓja's website, accounts, listings and related support interactions. It does not govern websites, payment services or communication tools operated independently by third parties.
Information we collect
Information you provide
- account details such as your name, email address, phone number and account type;
- profile details, location, biography and business information;
- listing details, prices, descriptions, photos, availability and contact preferences;
- reviews, ratings, saved items and other content you submit; and
- information included in support requests or reports.
Information collected through use
- device, browser, IP address and general location information;
- pages viewed, searches, interactions and approximate timestamps; and
- cookies, local storage and similar technologies needed for preferences, authentication, security and performance.
How we use information
- create and maintain accounts;
- publish listings and help users discover relevant marketplace content;
- enable contact and other requested platform features;
- personalise preferences and improve usability, reliability and performance;
- detect fraud, misuse, security incidents and violations of our terms;
- respond to support requests and communicate service information;
- comply with law and protect the rights and safety of users and others; and
- develop new features using aggregated or de-identified insights where appropriate.
Public and shared information
Listing content and parts of business profiles are intended to be public. This may include a display name, profile image, general location, biography, ratings, reviews, listing details and contact options you choose to show.
When you contact another user or use an external contact option, that person receives the information you choose to share and handles it independently. Avoid placing sensitive personal information in public fields, photos or listing descriptions.
When information may be disclosed
We may disclose information:
- to service providers that host, secure, analyse or support HiÓja under appropriate obligations;
- to other users when you publish content or request a connection;
- when required by law, legal process or a valid government request;
- to protect users, prevent fraud, enforce our terms or respond to an emergency; or
- as part of a merger, financing, reorganisation or transfer of the service, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Retention
We keep personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain account and transaction-related records, resolve disputes, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by the type of information and why it is held.
Information may remain in backups for a limited period after deletion. We may retain aggregated or de-identified information that no longer identifies you.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so use a strong, unique password and keep verification codes private.
If you believe your account is compromised, reset your password and review the guidance in our Help center.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access, correct or update personal information;
- request deletion or restriction of certain processing;
- object to certain uses or withdraw consent where consent is the basis;
- receive a portable copy of eligible information; and
- complain to an appropriate data protection authority.
You can update many profile details directly through your account. We may need to verify a request and may retain information where the law permits or requires it.
Children's privacy
HiÓja is not directed to children who are below the age at which they can legally consent to online services in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
International use and policy changes
HiÓja may use service providers or infrastructure in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
We may update this policy as the service or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted here with a new update date, and material changes may be communicated through the service.
